Mission Statement:
To serve as
a modern central bank of Afghanistan with primary
responsibility for providing monetary (price) stability
for Afghanistan and developing a sound financial
services sector
Strategic
Objectives:
1) Develop and implement rational monetary
policies to achieve price and
exchange rate stability.
2) Ensure the thorough and timely supervision of
all financial institutions, as defined by the DAB Law.
3) Provide for the quality and the profitability
of the management of the foreign exchange reserves for
the country.
4) Issue and maintain the afghani currency (bank
notes and coins) to ensure availability of currency and
its utilization across the country.
5) Develop a nation-wide electronic payments
system that serves all provinces of Afghanistan.
6) Provide efficient, modern banking services to
the Government of Afghanistan that enables
the effective implementation of government fiscal
policies and plans; including revenue collection, funds
disbursement and timely financial account information.
7) Provide accurate, timely and relevant
information to the public.
8) Hire, develop and compensate qualified, honest
and innovative staff at every level.
Basic Tasks
of DAB:

Formulate, adopt and execute the monetary policy
of Afghanistan.

Hold
and manage the official foreign exchange
reserves of Afghanistan.

Print and issue Afghani banknotes and coins.

Act
as banker and adviser to, and as fiscal agent of
the State.

License, regulate and supervise banks, foreign
exchange dealers, money service providers,
payment system operators, securities service
providers, securities transfer system operators.

Establish, maintain and promote sound and
efficient systems for payments, for transfers of
securities issued by the State or DAB, and for
the clearing and settlement of payment
transactions and transactions in such
securities.
