Private Company and Nangarhar Governor Align with DAB Campaign to Encourage Use of the Afghan
DAB’s radio and billboard campaign to promote use of the Afghani was supported by a prominent local business and Governor Gul Agha Sherzai of Nangarhar. Peer Baba Private Company, an oil importer, piggybacked their own media campaign based on DAB’s and announced that they would conduct all of their business transactions in Afghani to show respect for their national identity. Governor Sherzai also asked all of the Nangarhar citizens and shopkeepers in particular to use the Afghani and to stop using the Pakistani Rupee despite their close access to the Pakistan border. He said that using foreign currencies negatively affects the value of the Afghani.
